Wellness That Nourishes Body, Mind & Soul

October is like the opening day of Holiday Season which concludes with the World Series, aka New Year’s! New Year’s always brings about the obligatory New Year's Resolution, many of which revolve around health and wellness. These are fantastic because wellness is so important to living a happy, fulfilling, successful life, but, sadly, so many of them are forgotten by February 1st. This is the first article of a 3-part series to get you to think differently about wellness in hopes that you have the motivation and tools to stick to your 2024 wellness resolutions. This article will redefine wellness beyond your waistline. The second article will discuss the benefits of us being holistically well, and the third will give you the tools and mindset to stick to new habits.
Wellness is typically thought of as eating healthy, losing weight, and exercising. These are all part of it; however, you can be physically healthy and still not be “well.” Wellness needs to be addressed from a more holistic perspective – physically, mentally, and spiritually. Our overall wellness depends upon all three of these interconnected elements.

🌿Physical Wellness
Food is our fuel. If you’ve ever had the misfortune of filling your vehicle’s gas tank with gas that had impurities in it, then you know how bad fuel can affect performance. When we change our focus from a diet of deprivation to filling our bodies with good fuel, then physical wellness becomes more of a lifestyle than a temporary fad diet. Once your body is running on good fuel, you will find that adding exercise will come naturally.

🧠Mental Wellness
Mental wellness is an internal resource that helps us to think, feel, connect, and function. It is an active process that helps us to build resilience, grow, and thrive. It is impacted by our past experiences – both good and bad. Understanding these and how they’re impacting our behaviours is key to improving our mental wellness.
🕊Spiritual Wellness

Spiritual wellness is about being connected to something that is greater than yourself that gives you purpose and meaning to your life. It’s about understanding your value in this world and that it isn’t attached to things or status, but that you have a purpose to live and to provide good in this world. Examples of spiritual wellness are volunteering, practicing religion, or meditation. When we are spiritually unwell, we may find ourselves saying – “I’ll be happy when I get promoted,” “I’ll be happy when I get a new house,” or “I’ll be happy when I meet a nice partner.” These things provide a temporary lift, but do not provide pure, fulfilled joy that spiritual wellness will bring.
